Dan McFadden
Throughout my professional life, I have focused on assessing complex problems, building consensus and implementing change. I have developed a feel for this dynamic process, and the impacts, both intended and unintended, on elected officials, staff and the public.
Dan's public service career has included high level responsibility in a variety of settings: Captain in the Air Force, Assistant Chancellor at U.C. Santa Cruz, Senior Consultant to the State Senate Rules Committee and Deputy City Manager in San Jose.
As Deputy City Manager, Dan had oversight of housing, recreation, parks, community services, convention center, cultural affairs, library system, and downtown development. He was lead on a series of major negotiations including the management agreement for the San Jose Arena, an Ice Center, golf courses, land acquisitions, parking facilities, arts facilities, a conference center, and the operating agreement with the San Jose Sharks.
His private consulting practice has been focused on privatization projects, working with counties, cities and local agencies, or investment groups, to develop entertainment, hospitality and recreational facilities. His work with Avery & Associates involved labor negotiations and mediations representing cities, counties and special districts with police, fire and various service and trade unions. Recently, he returned to San Jose for 14 months as acting Deputy City Manager during a time of transition.
Dan has a B.A. and M.A. in Intellectual History. He has a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Pittsburgh.
